An
integrated Caribbean
With
an integrated Caribbean fast becoming a reality, it is time to join the wave of the
future as our region seeks to keep abreast of increasing technological development
and trade liberalisation. The implementation of the CARICOM Single
Market and Economy (CSME) by 2005 is crucial to the social and economic
advancement of the region in an era of increased globalisation.
Member states of the CSME are committed to the free movement of goods, services, labour and
capital across the region. Freedom to travel and compete for work in member states
without the need for work permits. Initially this will be available to nationals of
member states who are university graduates, media workers,
sportspersons, musicians, artistes, managerial, technical and supervisory persons
(including their spouses and dependants)
associated with establishing entities and by entitled persons qualifying as self-employed industrial, commercial,
artisanal, professional and agricultural service providers. Greater liberalisation
will follow as restrictions are removed for other classes of work.

Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana,
Haiti, Montserrat, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines,
Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago.
